One kingdom-constant in this age is that those who are called to lead must at some point “entrust” what they’ve learned and built “to faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2). And that’s happening today at Desiring God.
On behalf of the DG board and staff, it is my great joy to announce that effective today Scott Anderson is the new Executive Director of Desiring God.
Scott is a DG veteran, having joined us in May 2001. He has served in a number of roles over the years, most recently as Director of Events & Partnerships. Some of you might recognize him as the emcee at our conferences and the host of our recent series of DG Live broadcasts.
It doesn’t take being around Scott very long to see the significant ways God has gifted him. In fact, there’s not much that Scott can’t do well (yep, he’s one of those guys!). I’m particularly excited about the managerial leadership and attention to detail he will bring to operations oversight, which definitely exceeds my own.
But I’m most excited about the fact that Scott loves Jesus Christ. I have been in the privileged place to watch the Lord take Scott through different kinds of adversity over the past few years. And the fruit borne in his life has been deeper faith, humility, gentleness, kindness and patience. It’s been beautiful to watch him trust Jesus. God has been preparing him for kingdom leadership. That makes me eager for you all to get to know him better.
I have prayed for this day for years. John Piper and I conceived of Desiring God back in the spring of 1994 and it’s been my joy to serve as Executive Director for almost all of the years since. But I have always known this day would come. Nothing lasts forever. Everything in this age is only for a season. So I have been praying for my successor. Today is an answered prayer!
And today is not a sad day for me because I am not leaving DG! Rather, I will be focusing on my two other roles at DG, which are President and Board Chair. In other words, I’m handing off the day-to-day operations of DG in order to give more focused attention on vision and governance leadership, communication, and partner relations.
So we’re not marking an ending at DG. We’re launching what, Lord willing, will be an exciting new season of greater fruitfulness in spreading a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ. Pray with us that it will be so (2 Thessalonians 3:1).
And welcome Scott into his new role!
