There is nothing shy about Jesus' kingship in John 12. The inhabitants of Jersusalem greeted him with praise, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” He is their Messiah, the promised one. But it's more than that, their Messiah is the king of the world.
The world will go after him, too. They want to see him. They want to behold this king in all his glory, but it won't turn out like they expected. Jesus explains that his pathway to glory is through death. A grain of wheat must fall to the ground and die if it will bear fruit.
The road that Jesus walked — and the one he calls us to — is not easy, but it is glorious. We've seen who he is and what he's going to do. Now he invites us to join him.
